Afghanistan : Pakistan Launches Air Strikes in Afghanistan Within 24 Hours of Karachi Attack, 29 Reported Killed
Afghanistan
Munai Ghosh : Just 24 hours after a deadly militant attack on the Sindh Rangers headquarters in Karachi, Pakistan launched retaliatory air strikes inside Afghanistan.
According to reports, the Pakistan Air Force carried out a series of air strikes late Sunday night targeting locations inside Afghanistan. At least 29 people were reportedly killed and more than 100 others injured. The government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has claimed that all those killed were militants.

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the operation began with a ground offensive in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, near the Afghan border. During the operation, four militants, including Khan Forosh, a senior commander of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), were reportedly killed.
Pakistan then intensified the operation by launching what it described as “precision strikes” on suspected militant bases in Afghanistan’s Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar provinces. Pakistani authorities claimed that 25 militants were killed in the air strikes and a large cache of weapons and ammunition was destroyed.
In a post on X, Attaullah Tarar wrote :
“Pakistan remains committed to maintaining peace. However, we will make no compromise when it comes to the security of our citizens and the country’s sovereignty.”
According to the Pakistani government, the strikes targeted only TTP hideouts. However, the Taliban-led Afghan government has not yet issued an official response to the operation. The retaliation followed a suicide attack on the Sindh Rangers’ Bhittai Wing headquarters in Karachi. Militants reportedly detonated explosives to breach the security perimeter before opening indiscriminate fire. The attack killed four Pakistani soldiers. Pakistani intelligence agencies believe the TTP was behind the assault.
Analysts say the latest air strikes could significantly escalate tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Attention is now focused on how relations between the two neighboring countries will evolve in the coming days.
